Governors work closely with headteachers, school staff and representatives from the local authority (LA).
The Governing Body of Consett Junior School is committed to:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school
- Providing constructive challenge and support to the Head teacher and her staff in the pursuit of maximising the academic performance and personal development of the school’s pupils
- The development and performance management of teaching staff to maintain and improve their teaching and enhance their job satisfaction
- The development of teamwork between all staff, teaching and other, pupils and parents in order that the school provides a supportive environment in which children flourish
- Overseeing the financial management of the school to ensure its capacity to provide properly for present and future pupils of the school.
Consett Junior School benefits from a governing body with a wide range of backgrounds but a shared commitment to the development and improvement of the school. Individual governors take a particular interest in different curriculum areas, and are regular visitors to the school where they are visible to staff, pupils and parents.

This year we have slimmed down our committee structure with the intention that we will have fewer, but better focused committees. We have revised our terms of reference for these committees to ensure that the full range of issues is covered, and that they meet the changes needs of the school. Governance Arrangements
This year we have reconstituted the governing body on the following basis:
School and Governor Support Service – January 2017
The full governing body meets once each term to consider the regular monitoring of performance, the wider range of school activities, and to ensure that all governors are up to date with changes in National and Local Authority guidance and regulations.
Statutory Guidance for Governing Bodies
Consett Junior School adhere to the statutory guidance from the Department of Education. This means that governing bodies must have regard to it when carrying out duties relating to the constitution of governing bodies in maintained schools.
