Welcome to Class 6 2024/25. The Class will be taught by Mr Moore and supported by Mrs Carr. On a Tuesday morning, this class will be taught by Miss Hughes and will be doing Spelling, grammar and maths. There are 30 pupils in this class.

About Me
My name is Mr Moore and this will be my eleventh year teaching at Consett Junior School, mainly teaching in Year 5, but have also spent time teaching across the school.
I have really enjoyed working at Consett Junior School, we place a massive importance in developing their knowledge, we place an equal, if not greater importance in the children having a wide range of exciting and unique experiences.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family and taking my son, Seb, to play on the beach and in the sea, anytime of year and whatever the weather!
About Class 6
I am really looking forward spending this year with the children in the class, we have a lot of exciting topics planned for the year and they are highlighted below, we will have trips that will enhance the topics and the children understanding in them.
English
In English, our work will be based on the following books: The Nowhere Emporium, Holes and The Garbage King. We are excited to introduce the children to these exciting books, and hopefully they will inspire the class and help them to create some amazing pieces of writing.
There will be a weekly spelling list sent out and it will be tested on a Tuesday, the children will also be able to practise these words using spelling shed.
Maths
In Maths, we will be following the White Rose Maths scheme. Our daily lessons will incorporate a variety of fluency, reason and problem-solving questions. In our basic skills sessions we will focus on developing our arithmetic skills and our recall of the times tables up to 12ร12.
Our topics for this term are:
History: Anglo Saxons & Vikings, Crime & Punishment and The Slave Trade.
Geography: Fantastic Journeys, What Shapes my World? and Where does my Food Comes From?
Computing: Coding, Online Safety, Spreadsheets, Databases, Game Creator and Modelling.
Jigsaw: Being Me, Celebrating Difference, Dreams & Goals, Healthy Me, Relationships and Changing Me.
Science: The topics we cover in year 5 science are: space, properties of materials, forces, living things and their habitats and animals including humans
