Business/Education Links

A major achievement over the last eight years has been the school’s recognition as an ‘Investor in People’ a national award recognising overall investment in pupils, staff and outside agencies.

Over the past two years we have consolidated links as well as developing new initiatives. There is also a good link with the various departments the local Council, an invaluable source of information on the varied aspects of community life.

Visits to the two feeder comprehensive schools continues to provide insight into the working of both schools for both staff and pupils. Good links between staff ensure that provision is enhanced for both schools and transition is well supported with secondary and with feeder infant schools. Year 5 visit Consett Infants to meet Year 2 pupils and make friends.

Other Community Links

Children from Year 6 help at Beechdale Nursery School on a weekly basis.

Children in the Brass Band regularly play at the local Care Homes and at events held in the community.

The school has been involved over the last few years with events and developments at Consett and Blackhill Park and will continue these with the establishment of the new Heritage Centre and classroom.

New links are being made from 2009 with Planning Aid North and Young Enterprise, where representatives from the business community come into school to work with pupils and staff.
