In response to the Department of Education’s request we have developed a Remote Learning Policy. Each and every school will fulfil this request differently, indeed a range of approaches are in use across our local primary schools. This policy, in its development, has taken into account the views of parents, children and staff.
Remote Learning Policy
The policy outlines our aims for Remote learning, as well as how we will implement our policy for the children.
Four main strands of the Policy
To successfully fulfil the aims of our policy it has been necessary to careful select a range of programs that can be used to deliver remote learning. An outline of these are below, there is also links at the bottom of the page to the appropriate online pages and some useful help sheets for parents.
- MyOn – An online reading site that is linked to the schools Accelerated Reader scheme; the site allows the children to access a range of reading materials that are age and ability appropriate.
- Timetables Rockstars – A way of developing tables knowledge, through repetition and games. There are various challenges for the children to complete.
- Purple Mash – Originally bought as a way of delivering computing, the platform has so much more. It allows staff to set work across most subjects, allowing for differentiation by ability, giving staff the luxury of feeding back online so that children are able to respond to the teachers.
- Microsoft 365 – We have created each and every pupil a Microsoft account, that lets them access the features of Word, Powerpoint etc, but also Outlook. It will allow staff to email directly the children, likewise let the children message the staff during work hours for help if needed. These emails are for the children – our main school email are for enquires etc.
How will the policy work for individual children isolating?
Once we know a child is isolating because of a COVID 19 related issue the class teacher will issue them work through Purple Mash, this will be as soon as is practical for the teacher, as they will still be teaching the rest of the class. The child can access MyOn, Timestables Rockstars and 365 at any point.
We have suggested a timetable for children who are isolating.
Reading | Maths | English | Timetables | Foundation Subjects |
|
---|---|---|---|---|---|
MyOn | Purple Mash | Purple Mash | TT Rockstar's | Purple Mash | |
Allocation of time | 30mins | 40mins | 40mins | 30mins | 40mins |
What is the difference if the whole class needs to isolate?
If a class or year group needs to isolate we will adopt a slightly different timetable where the foundation subjects change according to the day of the week. The table below explains this difference. We will endeavour also to answer children’s emails sent to their year group emails. Obviously this does depend on individual circumstances for teachers, some have young children and may be isolating with them.
