Class 2

Welcome to Class 2 2024/25. The Class Teacher is Miss Clarey and there are 27 pupils in this class. This class is supported by Mrs Carr and Miss V Waters.

About me

Hello, my name is Miss Clarey and I have worked at Consett Junior School since qualifying as a teacher in 2021. This is my first-time teaching in year 3 and I am very excited to be learning lots of new things alongside the children!
I am returning to school following my maternity leave with my little boy, Teddie, who is now 9 months old. I am returning to school for 4 days so I can spend some time with him too – therefore on a Wednesday the class will be taken by the lovely Miss Hughes!
As part of my role in school, I am also the PE subject lead. Being so passionate about the subject, I like to make every lesson active so I hope you are ready for the frequent super movers, just dance and brain breaks!

About Class 2

Class 2 is all about settling into their new school and adapting to new teachers, routines and being around older children. Children in Class 2 always demonstrate resilience and kindness no matter what. I look forward to finding out each unique quality of the pupils in Class 2 and tailoring the curriculum around their needs.

English

In English this half term we are going to be focusing our writing on the book ‘Gorilla’. We will be joining our Gorilla obsessed character, Hannah, on her amazing adventures with her new Gorilla friend as well as diving deeper into the book and analysing Hannah’s relationship with the other characters. We will be writing some character descriptions as well as researching Gorillas to write a non-chronological report. Children will have their spelling lesson on a Wednesday and will be given their spellings then for their test the following Wednesday. Reading diaries will be checked every Friday and it is an expectation that children read at home at least 3 times a week.

Maths

In Maths we will be using White Rose Maths to develop our mathematical skills and understanding. This half term, we will be developing our multiplication and division skills as well as looking at fractions, length and perimeter. To help us with our timetables we will also be using Times Tables Rockstars – who is going to have the highest rock status?

Science

Our science topic this term is Animals including humans. We will be looking at what we need to survive and how our skeleton works. Lots of fun investigations and experiments will be happening!

PE

This half term we are extremely lucky as we have specialist coaches for both of our PE sessions! We will be having a lovely, relaxing Tuesday afternoon because for our indoor PE we are doing yoga! On a Thursday, for our outdoor PE, we will be learning to shoot hoops in basketball. Please could you make sure that children come to school wearing the correct PE kit on both of these days.

Other projects/topics/themes:

This term we are taking a step back in time to Early Civilisations which will eventually lead us onto our exciting topic of Ancient Egypt. Not only will the Egyptians influence our history lessons, but we will also be creating some Egyptian artwork in our weekly art lessons. In computing we are going to be learning some very important skills as we use the laptops to touch type. Our RE lessons will focus on symbols. We will look at symbols and items that are meaningful to us before looking at symbols within a Christian Church.
