Services running from Glenroyd House – Ask for help if you need to.

April 28, 2020 by dawnraine

Services that Glenroyd House are providing to the residents in the local area.

Community Pantry, previously named the fareshare, referred from Glenroyd House (registered charity no 1160715 established March 2015); the Durham Christian Partnership (foodbank) runs from Glenroyd House but is completely separate from the Community Pantry; the Corona Group, who are working alongside the foodbank to provide food parcels to the public. The Community Pantry is NOT affiliated with the Corona Group.

The Community Pantry is open to anyone in the local area whether they are employed/ unemployed or currently under the government scheme of Furlough. The food hampers are completely free and if people require this service they can collect or they can deliver. The volunteers provide this service and the Hunger Hangout are also supporting them with deliveries and providing meals to the elderly and vulnerable.

The food packages are very substantial with non-perishable and fresh food for people to be able to cook full meals. In addition they support any dietary needs providing they have the supplies to enable this.

If individuals do claim an e-voucher from an external partner this is allocated from the foodbank but again they can support with delivery for this. The foodbank is only open 10am-12pm but they are open Monday – Friday 9am- 4pm (only under the Covid-19 as the hours are longer) but if they get contacted for an emergency package after closing or during a weekend they provide this service.

A lot of parents are too proud to ask for help and their moto is ‘we deliver and forget it happened’ which takes away the embarrassment that they feel for asking for help. It is strictly confidential and they do not take personal information and store it.

Consett Vulnerable People Support Group (Corona Group). Are a non-profit charity that is aiming to support people around the local area at this difficult time. They are getting through to a lot of the vulnerable elderly people but haven’t managed to get through to many vulnerable families.

As a group they are pleased to announce they are now in receipt of a grant which they applied for, this has enabled them to absorb some of the cost of their food packs allowing them now to offer a much larger pack for a reduced price of £10. They are also working alongside Durham Christian Partnership (the foodbank).

Food packs contain

Cereal
4 pints of semi skimmed milk
A loaf of bread
6 eggs
Butter
Pasta + jar of sauce
Rice
Tins (Soup, beans, hotdogs/tinned meat, tuna and rice pudding)
Crisps
Soap
Tea or coffee
Packet of biscuits
Sweets/snacks
Packet of ham/cooked meat
Fresh fruit and veg (potatoes, carrots, onions, 3 apples, 3 oranges and 3 bananas)
Alongside this, free of charge, they are offering pack lunches for all children and activity packs to keep them busy.

Again, a lot of parents are sometimes too proud to ask for help when they need it most, especially the most vulnerable families.

Their number is 01207 240156 and their Facebook is //: Corona vulnerable people and volunteers (Consett)

There is also Glenroyd house in Consett which is part of Durham Christian Partnership Foodbank. They are happy to support families with some smaller care packages so that they don’t go hungry as they know money can be tight at the moment.

If you have any questions about the services they are offering please feel free to get in touch with them at laura.tomlinson1@hotmail.co.uk
