Meal Provision for Keyworker Children from 1st June 2020

May 22, 2020 by dawnraine

From 1st June we are changing the meal provisions in school. Our school as always been open for children of key workers and vulnerable children since the lockdown in March. At most, we have only ever had a maximum of seven children in school in any one day. Our kitchen closed in April, vouchers were put in place and children were required to bring in their own packed lunch.

Recently, all known key workers who were eligible for a place were contacted to see if they would need their place moving forward. We have 29 families who were eligible and a further four families will now need their place, with others needing theirs at the end of June. This means more children will be accessing the provision and we need to reduce the items brought into school to keep cross contamination to a minimum.

As previously informed we are working through our risk assessments to allow us to open for Year 6 as soon as it is safe to do so, in our risk assessment we have stated that all meals will be provided by our catering team, Taylor Shaw. Taylor Shaw are reopening most of their school kitchens from 1st June and we are one of those schools.ย  Not all schools are doing the same but we need to consider the administration of meals and minimise the risk of contaminated items being brought into school. Therefore, children accessing school, either for childcare or when the school reopens for wider groups, they must only bring in their coat. Bags, water bottles and packed lunches must NOT be brought into school.

Food vouchers for children coming into school will stop, as their meal will be provided for them. Families who pay for school meals will be charged for their meal on ParentPay. This process will be reviewed weekly as part of the risk assessment, if and when we feel able to change this, we will inform you in our usual ways. We understand that this may not be an option that you or your child may prefer, but this is to ensure the safety of all our children and staff.

Taylor Shaw will offer the following to all children,

Sandwich: bread or buns. Choice of ham, cheese, tuna.

Veg sticks – Carrot/ cucumber.

One of the following changing daily:

Crackers and cheese.
Pizza .
Pizza whirl.
Cheese scone.
Cheese pie.

Various fruit.

2 x pieces of sweet treats which could be:

Biscuits.
Traybake.
Shortbread .
Cake( various).
Fairy cake.
Jelly.

Any questions, feel free to contact the school office
