Covid 19 – Please remain vigilant

June 21, 2021 by dawnraine

Dear families

Over the weekend we have heard of several cases of covid in our local area, which has resulted in school bubble closures and several people isolating. With only four weeks left of this term and the hope that the government moves us into step 4 of the roadmap in July, we are urging you to remain vigilant and not send your child to school if you suspect they may have Covid.

If you have been in contact with a positive case you must self isolate immediately.

If a member of your bubble has Covid you must all self isolate.

If you are waiting for PCR results the whole bubble must self isolate.

Please do not put others at further risk. For details about what you can and cannot do in step 3 of the road map please visit https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus

Ordering Uniform – September 2021 – repost

June 21, 2021 by dawnraine

Dear families of Year 3, 4 and 5

Uniform providers are significantly busy at this time of year, please don’t leave it too late to place your September uniform order.

Your orders can be placed online at https://totstoteams.com/consett-junior-school

IF YOU ORDER ADULT SIZES FROM THIS WEBSITE THEY CANNOT BE RETURNED OR REFUNDED. ONLY SIZES UP TO XS CAN BE RETURNED OR REFUNDED.

You can opt for school or home delivery but please do not choose school delivery in July as it may not arrive at school before we finish on Friday 16th July. Jumpers, polo’s and t-shirts will arrive with our logo embroidered. You do not have to use our uniform provider, there are many high street stores who offer the same colours and be more suited to your budget.

Here is also a link to our uniform requirements https://www.consett-jun.durham.sch.uk/parents/our-school-uniform/

Class structures for September 2021

June 17, 2021 by dawnraine

Dear parents/Carers

We are now able to share with you all who your child’s class teacher will be in their next academic year.

Children in current year 5 have been mixed for year 6, this is mainly to support friendship groups but also to prepare the children for changes when they leave our school at the end of year 6, even if children go to the same secondary school, they will not be to be grouped the way they are now. We feel it is our responsibility to prepare our children for these changes.

Children in current Year 5 will be sent a school text to state who their new teacher will be. Once received can you please discuss this with your child. The classes have been significantly changed but this has been a sensitive process with current year 5 staff working closely with Year 6 and the SLT.

Children in years 3 and 4 will remain in their current class groups and will move as a class to their next teacher, see below:

Year 3 Class 1 – Will become Class 4 with Miss Thompson (supported by Miss Wilson)
Year 3 Class 2 – Will become Class 3 with Mr Meadows and Mrs Taylor (supported by Miss Oselton and Miss Wilson)

Year 4 Class 3 – Will become Class 5 with Miss Breheny (supported by Mrs Wood)
Year 4 Class 4 – Will become Class 6 with our newly appointed teacher, Miss Clarey (supported by Mrs Hird)

Year 5 Class 5 – Text will determine Miss Waters (supported by Mrs Gilray and Mrs Hannant) or Miss McNeill (supported by Mrs Shield)
Year 5 Class 6 – Text will determine Miss Waters (supported by Mrs Gilray and Mrs Hannant) or Miss McNeill (supported by Mrs Shield)

The new year 3 children’s teachers will remain as Mrs McMahon, Miss White and Miss Hughes (supported by Miss Atkinson and Miss Lynch).

In September Mr Moore will be leading and teaching Science across years 4 to 6.

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer our children a move up day before the end of term, as we are not able to safely support our bubbles in doing so. However, current years 3 to 5 will spend the first two days of the new term doing transition activities as they would have done on a move up day. This means the full curriculum will not start until Monday 6th September.

Year 6 Trip to Moorhouse Activity Centre – Things They Will Need

June 17, 2021 by dawnraine

Dear Parents/Carers of year 6,

On Friday 2nd July Year 6 children will be going on an action packed school trip to Moorhouse Activity Centre. On the day of the trip children must be in school no later than 8.30 a.m., (bus will leave at 8.45 a.m. prompt) and they will return to school at a much later time of 6.30 p.m. If you child attends breakfast club they will go to their class at 8.30 a.m. Children not attending breakfast club must only come to school at 8.30 a.m. and go straight to their class for registration.

Children do not need to wear their school uniform and do not need a change of clothes BUT they must not wear ‘crop tops’ or ‘shorts that are too short’, due to the harness they will wear for some of the activities. Depending on the weather, it is advised that all children will need a waterproof coat and trainers that you don’t mind getting dirty (Just to clarify, they can come wearing these, they do not need to be additional trainers). If it is a sunny day children should bring sun hats/caps and sun cream. If children need to bring their mobile phones these must be turned off and given to their teacher, they should not carry them and must not take any photos. Children found to do this risk being excluded from the sleepover the following week.

During the day the children will be split into five activity groups and in turn they will participate in rifle shooting; abseiling; tree climbing; zip wire; team challenges and the day will end with a camp fire. All children will be encouraged to take part,  but if they really don’t want to, they will not be made to participate in activities they are worried about. After all, the aim of the day is fun.

Please complete this Microsoft form by Friday 18th June ONLY IF you need to order school packed lunches for the day. Otherwise children will need to bring TWO packed lunches, or enough food for two meals. ALL children must have an additional drink. There are water filling stations available so children can use this at anytime they need to re-fill them.

The cost of the trip is covered by the £25pp families have paid to cover all end of year trips. Children do not need any money on the day.

Kind Regards

Robinwood Residential Trip 2022 – Year 6

June 15, 2021 by dawnraine

Last Wednesday we shared a ‘preliminary interest form’ to gather numbers in order to book a residential trip for our soon to be year 6 children.

The response was good which has allowed us book the dates we reserved. Therefore we have now secured Monday 16th May – Wednesday 19th May 2022 and the total cost to pay is £240 per child. School will cover the remaining £27 pp as well as the cost of the coach. If you have not shown and interest and change your mind, please get in touch as there are only three places remaining.

We have booked the Alston Site and a link for you to view is below.

https://www.robinwood.co.uk/

Deposits are non-refundable (£25), and failure to pay in full before the deadline (Friday 29th April 2022) will mean your child will not be able to attend. If you showed an interest then you will find a payment item on ParentPay called ‘Robinwood Residential Trip 2022 – Year 6’. This is a ‘reducing’ payment item which will allow you to see your balance go down after each payment is made.

In order to secure your place deposits MUST be paid by Friday 16th July. Failure to pay will mean your place will be revoked.

Children who do not go will spend time out of school in the local area doing other fun things on those days.

Party Bus Route – Year 6

June 15, 2021 by dawnraine

Dear families of year 6

As promised, here is a peek into the route/times for when the children are partying on the party bus on Monday 12th July.

The bus will leave school from Ashdale Road at 9.15 a.m. depending on the direction the bus is facing it will either head up to Medomsley Road or down to Sherburn Terrace, either way it will arrive at Number 1 Roundabout. From there it will head down the bypass (A692) into Consett to KFC Roundabout and back up Front Street. The bus will spend the next 15 minutes circling around the ‘B’ roads of Consett before taking a scenic route out of Consett to head down to Allensford Park for 10.00 a.m. It will spend an hour at the park so the children can run around and Mark Wilkinson Photography will be there for the hour taking photographs for a parent gallery.

At 11.00 a.m. the children will board the bus and continue on their way touring the local area before returning to school at 12.00 noon.  Please ensure children have their water bottle and an additional drink for the bus.

If you are planning to find a place along the route to watch the coach please remember social distancing and also please do not share photographs if other children are featured on them. There will be opportunity for you to view and purchase photographs from Mark after the event.

End of Year Show – Costumes/Clothes

June 14, 2021 by dawnraine

Our end of year show is taking place in school on Thursday 1st July (rehearsal day is 20th June). All children will be involved in preparing for this, even if permission is not granted for the video (they will just not feature on the day).  Usually at this point in the year we have calls from families asking what they need to wear on the day. To make this easier for all please see below:

Year 3 (Class 1 Mrs McMahon) – all children are wear ‘normal clothes’ as if they are going shopping.

Year 3 (Class 2 Miss White) – all children are to wear casual clothes that they can dance in, this must include flat shoes and a hat/cap.

Year 4 – Some children will be scientists and this will need to wear a plain white top, black trousers and we will provide the with a wig. If you child is NOT a scientist (they will have been told) then they need to wear ‘normal’ style clothes i.e. just non-uniform.

Year 5 (Class 5 Miss Breheny) – All children to wear black ‘from top to toe’.

Year 5 (Class 6 Mr Moore) – All children to wear black bottoms and either ‘red, white or blue’ top.

Year 6 – please can you ensure you child knows what they are wearing, the teachers have already told them. Most children have different parts and many costumes are being provided by school.

New Topics in PHSE – Jigsaw Scheme

June 11, 2021 by dawnraine

We are writing to inform you that your child’s classes will be starting their new topic in PSHE, we use a scheme called Jigsaw (PSHE), each of the topics are called puzzles and the next is called ‘Changing Me’. Due to changes in the National Curriculum, these are now compulsory parts of the curriculum and must be taught.

During these sessions your child will be learning about puberty and human reproduction, don’t worry this is delivered in an age appropriate level and way. It is treated in a matter-of-fact manner to allay embarrassment and fear.
