April 29, 2021 by dawnraine

Dear Parents/Carers of year 4,

On Monday 28th June 2021 children in Year 4 will be going on a school trip to Washington Wetland Centre. On the day of the trip children should be in school no later than 8.45am, (bus will leave at 9.00 a.m. prompt) and they should be collected at their normal time of 3.05pm.

Children must wear their full school uniform. They will also need a waterproof coat and sturdy walking boots/trainers. If it is a sunny day children should bring sun hats and sun cream with them.

During the day, children will participate in a habitats workshop and an identification and classification session too. These are linked to our Science topic for the summer term.

Please complete this Microsoft form by Monday 14th June ONLY IF you need to order a school packed lunch for the day. Otherwise children will need a packed lunch. ALL children must have an additional drink.

The cost of the trip will be paid from the school budget, but we do request a contribution towards the cost of the transport. A payment item has been set up on ParentPay called ‘Year 4 Trip Contribution’.

Year 6 Assessment Week

April 28, 2021 by dawnraine

Year 6 assessment week will be the week beginning 17th May. These assessments are in place of the Statutory Attainment Tests which the children will not be taking this year. This week allows staff, children and parents to see the progress that the children have made this year as well as gaps in their learning which can then be taught and set as homework in the summer term. Attendance is very important for this week as the children will have to sit the assessments at a later date if they miss them.

Please reassure your child/ren that this week is nothing to worry about: we are all aware that the children have missed months worth of education in school over the last two years. It is simply to gain an understanding of where we are in order to help us improve and to show off what we are good at.

The year 6 staff are very impressed with how hard the children are working and we have every faith that this week will just give them a chance to show off how much they have learnt.

Kind regards
Miss Waters

Year 3 – End of Year Trip

April 21, 2021 by dawnraine

Dear Parents/Carers of year 3,

We have a very exciting trip planned for Year 3 on Wednesday 9th June… we are heading to the beach!
This year has shown us how resilient and determined our classes are and as a school we have focused on the wellbeing of our pupils above all else. So, to show the children how important it is to look after themselves and each other we would like to spend the day at South Shields beach enjoying lots of games, fun activities, fossil hunting and even ice-cream by the sea! All whilst celebrating their incredible achievements throughout the year.

Please complete this Microsoft form by Wednesday 26th May ONLY IF you need to order a school packed lunch for the day. Otherwise children will need a packed lunch. ALL children must have an additional drink.

https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=Uv_fRWSDc02_Oo-YvfENhzGYEp0zDERAnxWCoX5eIjVUMlZKMkVLNkVBQUZINzhCSEsxTkcxSkpHQi4u

The coach will depart from school at 9.30 a.m. and children will be back for their usual finish time.

Children will need to be dressed appropriately for the weather that day and bring a spare change of clothes should they get wet. Please ensure you have applied sun cream and they have a hat. Children can bring no more than £5 (change preferred) on the day to buy an ice cream etc. Please do not overpack their bags as they will be carrying them.

Sun Care and Hydration

April 19, 2021 by dawnraine

Dear Families

Can we just take this opportunity to remind parents/carers to ensure their child is prepared for days when the sun is particularly hot.

Children, especially those who are particularly fair, should have sun cream applied before coming to school on a morning, and if you feel it necessary they can keep some cream in their bag. We advise children to bring sun hats/caps for outdoor breaks.

Children spend 15 minutes outside for morning break and a further 20 minutes during their lunch break. Please consider if it is also a day they may have afternoon P.E. as these sessions are likely to be outdoors.

If your child has hay fever, please ensure they have had their medication before coming to school.

Our school uniform policy remains in place, regardless of the weather, but children can exchange trousers for schools shorts, skirts or gingham dresses. Open toe sandals are not allowed.

Finally, all children must ensure they bring their water bottle to school every day.

Payment of Year 6 Activities

April 19, 2021 by dawnraine

Dear Families of Year 6

If you have any money left in school from Ford Castle balances you will have received a text message today. As we are asking for £25 per child towards the end of year celebration activities, please can you only pay the difference on ParentPay under the item ‘Year 6 Activities’. Some families had more than this and they will receive refunds.

Please note, when you log into ParentPay the default amount is set at £25.00, however, there is an option to pay the full amount OR choose a payment amount. If you have a balance of £8.50 in school, then only pay £16.50. We have also set it so you can pay in installments.

If you have not received a text today then you do not have any funds remaining in school. Therefore, please can you pay £25 under the option stated above.

We are requesting all payments to be made by Friday 11th June so we can plan things accordingly.

Thank you
CJS team

Exciting things for Year 6 – Can you guess any?

April 19, 2021 by dawnraine

Dear families

We know that the children would have been going to Ford Castle in May and due to the pandemic, this was cancelled last year. It has been a tense few months as we follow the road map out of lockdown, but things are certainly looking more positive, and restrictions are lifting.

Time for the good news…

As you know, behind the scenes we have been frantically planning and making arrangements to ensure that our class of 2021 get the best end to a difficult year- a one they truly deserve. We have booked things for the children on a week by week basis at the end of the term, this is to ensure that should we need to close their bubble, they will not miss out on everything and we can hopefully move things around should that happen. So, we have planned – we will allow you and your child to try to work out some of the cryptic things in store;

30th June – Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse
1st July – Lights, camera, action…and record
2nd July – All year 6 to breakfast club, bring two packed lunches, wear suitable clothes, ‘all aboard’, activities galore, toasting marshmallows and a late return to school
9th July – It’s Friday YAY! School, on an evening? REALLY! Glad rags on, disco dancing, spooky walk, DELIVERY, and sleep
10th July – School, on a SATURDAY, noooo home you go to sleep all day
12th July – Ditch the uniform, school by 9.00 then…a coach ride like no other. Parents and carers, watch out for the route which will be sent out beforehand, this method of transport is going to knock socks off. Back in time for lunch though.
12th July – a ‘sweet’ afternoon surprise…

We hope you and the children will have fun trying to work out these cryptic clues, more details will follow in due course. There may well be other things to schedule in, but these are the main ones.
Payment – we have calculated all costs and will subsidise the majority from school fund, however, we will require some contributions from families. We will set up a payment item on ParentPay called ‘Year 6 Activities’ and are requesting a £25 donation per child. If you have money left from Ford Castle we will send you a text message with this balance before Wednesday 21st April. The payment item on ParentPay will not be set up until Wednesday 21st April so please don’t try to pay beforehand.

It is also important to mention that these activities are also based on excellent behaviour and attendance, if children make the wrong choices in terms of their behaviour, consideration will be paid to whether or not they can participate.

School Trips – Exciting news

April 14, 2021 by dawnraine

Dear families

We are so excited to inform you that we have been given the green go-ahead light for school trips (day trips). Teachers will be looking at their curriculum and choosing an appropriate visit with the children.

We are looking at dates ASAP so that we can get in quick and secure dates, many other schools may be doing the same and we don’t want to miss out. This will mean that your child will have one trip before the end of term. We will try to ensure this is an outdoor venue to ensure we can keep children safe from any Covid risks. However, all visit centres must provide us with their covid risk assessments.

Please keep checking this APP for further updates. We will be sending further details out once we have them using Microsoft forms.

I am sure you will agree this is brilliant news for the children
