Wellbeing Day

December 2, 2020 by rebeccawaters

We had a great day on Friday celebrating Wellbeing Day. The day gave the children a chance to socialise and reflect on their mental health and wellbeing focusing on things that they enjoy doing together. We feel that this is vitally important after the year we have all had and have decided to do another Wellbeing Day in January – watch this space for a date!

Remembrance Day

November 16, 2020 by rebeccawaters

Last Wednesday the children in Year 6 attended Consett Cenotaph to mark Remembrance Day.ย  They were able to watch and be part of a small service where the Last Post was played and the two minute silence held.ย  Thank you to the man who played the bagpipes who made us feel very welcome and thanked the children for attending.

Food 4U

November 16, 2020 by rebeccawaters

Some of the year 6 children went to Consett Food Bank last week to present them with the cheque from the money we raised doing our daily mile.ย  The staff were thrilled with how much we had raised.ย  Thank you to everyone who donated.

Hooks into Books

February 28, 2020 by rebeccawaters

On Wednesday, our Year 6 children arrived in school to find lots of feathers scattered around the classroom and a copy of the first chapter of our new class novel ‘Skellig’ on their table.ย  The children were very excited and intrigued by all of this and are desperate to read the book.

Two of the children from Class 8 have been doing exceptionally well with their reading in school and at home.ย  So much so that they have read all of the books in school!!!ย  As a reward for this, the girls were asked to write a wish list of books and school have purchased these for their class.ย  Well done Nona and Jasmine!

Special recognition award

February 28, 2020 by rebeccawaters

This morning in assembly one of our Year 6 girls, Jody Brown, was given a special recognition award from Consett Rotary Club.

Jody has been an asset to our school over the last four years. Staff in school agree she is one of the most kind-hearted children we have ever had the privilege to teach. Jody is caring, well mannered, patient and helpful. She is an excellent friend and Iโ€™m sure all of her friends feel lucky to have such a positive, loyal and trustworthy person in their lives. Jody has shown real determination during her time at Consett Junior school, she never gives up and always strives to do her best. She listens to and acts on all of the advice she is given and has made excellent progress academically and also in the band where she started off in year 3 playing cornet and now plays the tenor horn. Jody will always go out of her way to help anyone who needs it and thatโ€™s why we feel she deserves to be presented with this yearโ€™s special recognition award.ย  Well Done Jody!

Year 6 Yeti project

February 6, 2020 by rebeccawaters

This morning the children in Year 6 received a letter from the ‘Unidentifiable Creature Society’ who have recently discovered a new creature.ย  The children used clues from each of the scientific labs to find out more about the creature, so that they could write a non-chronological report about it.ย  The morning was pretty disgusting, as you can see from some of the photos, but we now have lots of information to help

us when we are writing our report next week!

Consett Junior Brass prepare for tour!

February 4, 2020 by rebeccawaters

On Wednesday 29th January, one of Europe’s leading brass performers, Brett Baker, visited our school to work with some of the children in the school band.ย  Brett is a world class brass teacher and has been coming to Consett for 20 years now.ย  The purpose of his visit on Wednesday, was to discuss our concert with White River Brass, on Friday 3rd July and also to prepare the year 6 band children for their tour!ย  The children who play instruments in Year 6 will visit seven other local primary schools over the next few months to play a concert of music which will hopefully inspire and entertain other children in our local area.ย  The visit was also featured on the international brass band website ‘4barsrest’.ย  See the link below.

Class 8 Book Swap

January 22, 2020 by rebeccawaters

Last week the children from Class 8 took part in a book swap.ย  This involved children in the class bringing in books from home that they had already read and would be willing to swap.ย  The children absolutely loved the session.ย  They were able to look at all of the other books and chose some new ones for themselves to take home.ย  As you can see in the photographs we had lots of books to swap so it was a great success!ย  The children have been excited to talk about their new books this week and are obviously enjoying discussing books that their friends have already read.

Thank you to the parents and children of Class 8.

Miss Waters

Consett Junior Brass at Christmas

December 5, 2019 by rebeccawaters

What a busy week the school band have had!ย  In December we visit lots of places around the community and try to spread Christmas joy!ย  We usually take players from Year 6 so don’t worry if your child hasn’t been involved in all of these events, their time will come when they are in their final year.

On Monday, we played carols to the residents at Abigail Lodge and Maple Court.ย  Tuesday was our school Carol service so we played to parents there.ย  On Wednesday we held a band coffee morning and then we played at Consett Methodist Church in the afternoon.ย  And finally, this morning we played in Tesco.

It is so nice to see so many parents, grandparents and carers come along and support the band.ย  The children love playing to an audience and I’m sure it helps you feel even more festive.

Thank you.

Miss Waters
