Poppy Appeal 2020

October 19, 2020 by dawnraine

The Royal British Legion are asking the nation to Rethink Remembrance by recognising the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces community, past and present.

By wearing a poppy and/or poppy merchandise, you aren’t just remembering the fallen: you’re supporting a new generation of veterans and Service personnel that need our support.

We are now selling a limited amount of poppy merchandise in school, ranging from 50p to £1.50.

Due to Covid and preventing bubble contamination, our Poppy Sales will only be offered in ‘bubbles’ as follows:

Tuesday 20th October – Year 3
Friday 23rd October – Year 4
Tuesday 3rd November – Year 5
Friday 6th November – Year 6

Poppies are also on sale for a small donation.

We only have one box of merchandise so it is likely to sell out fast.

Halloween Themed Days – Next Week

October 13, 2020 by dawnraine

Reminder:

Sadly, our usual Halloween Disco cannot go ahead this year. So, in a bid to salvage this and allow children to have fun safely, we have arranged the following:

Year 3 and Year 4 can come to school dressed in their Halloween costumes (if they wish to) for a £1 school council fine on Thursday 22nd October. Each year group ‘bubble’ will have fun, games and music in the hall. One group in the morning and the second after lunch. The council fines will be used to buy games and prizes for the day. On the Friday they can come in non-uniform for the usual £1 school council fine.

On Friday 23rd October children in Year 5 and 6 will have their turn and can come to school wearing their Halloween costumes for a £1 fine. On the Thursday they can come in non-uniform for the usual £1 school council fine.

Children can bring masks but they must not wear them during lessons or whilst in the yard so we can easily identify them.

For all children taking part in these two days events there is an option set up on ParentPay called ‘Halloween Celebrations’ for their themed day(s) and a ‘non uniform fines’ option for the other day.

Halloween themed school meals week

October 13, 2020 by dawnraine

Usually at this time of year the kitchen are gearing up for a spooky week of gruesome lunches…As children are now eating in the hall we know the whole atmosphere of everyone in the hall will not be possible, but the catering team are keen to safely dress up the serving hatch and create a menu to scare…
As the colder weather is upon us and the menu is back in full swing, it is a good time for the packed lunch children to see if a change to hot meals is of interest, without committing to it full time.

If your child would like to try these scary meal choices next week then please complete the form below by THIS THURSDAY (15TH). By completing this form you agree to your ParentPay account being charged.

The menu for week commencing 19th October (next week) is as follows:

Monday – Mummy coated chicks or mummy dogs with mummy muffins to follow

Tuesday – A shepherd in a pie or petrified pizza followed by a toxic pudding

Wednesday – Spiced eye ball curry with black cauldron rice or maggots in cream followed by the Old witches muffins

Thursday – Screaming chickens in a pie or blood pasta, followed by wormed filled jelly with sprinkled bugs

Friday – Witches fingers and skeleton sticks or pumpkin filled witches brew followed by deadly desert and biscuit bones.

Outdoor Gym Plans…

October 8, 2020 by dawnraine

We wanted to let you know about some exciting plans we have for our children. As we have been unable to participate in the PE events we usually do and also as we have not spent much of our allocated PE budget, we have been working closely with several companies to negotiate costs to install an outdoor gym! We have been successful in sourcing the best price as well as the service and equipment from a local company.  We will use most of our PE funding to subsidise the total costs, the rest will be paid from our school budget.

Our outdoor gym will start to be installed from Monday 12th October so that it can be incorporated in PE lessons after half term. The company will ensure that the safe and appropriate use of the equipment is clearly shared with staff as well as a video to share with the children. The gym will be in an enclosed space, secured with a high locked fence to ensure the equipment can only be used with appropriate supervision.

If you would like to get a sneak peak of what we will be having installed, the link to the company is below.

Dropping off and collecting your children.

September 30, 2020 by dawnraine

Dear Parents and Carers,

Following the latest government advice and my observation of the drop off/collection of children, can I one again request that the earliest Year 3 and 4 parents arrive on the school site is 3 p.m. We are trying hard to keep your children safe and part of this is keeping adults safe. I would also insist that you follow the path around our school grounds when leaving with your child, some adults are crossing our yard or are going against the one-way system.

I have also observed and been informed that when Year 3 and 4 families leave their children on a morning they are gathering close to the main gates to talk to each other, this goes against what we are trying to achieve in terms of children’s safety and social distancing. If you need to talk to one another can you do this well away from the school to allow Year 5 and 6 children to enter school safely?

If people involved with the drop off/collection of children feel safer wearing a face mask, it is permissible to do so. We envisage this to be something the government will soon insist on, giving the rise in Covid Cases.

Beechdale Nursery and Consett Infant School have also implemented a staggered end to their day – we work closely with both schools and are therefore working together to keep everyone safe. Please try and follow the guidance set out by the schools – it is for everyone’s benefits.

Many thanks,

Mr Dixon
Head Teacher

Harvest Celebrations – Supporting ‘Food 4U’

September 28, 2020 by dawnraine

Dear Parents and Carers,

As part of our Harvest celebrations this year, we have decided to raise money for the ‘Food 4U’ organisation in Consett. This organisation provides food parcels for people in need, with short term financial difficulties. We feel that it is important that we contribute to the local community and remember that there are people who are less fortunate than ourselves.

We usually ask for donations of food, but due to Covid we are unable to do that this year.

To help raise money, the whole school are going to complete the ‘mile a day’ challenge every day in October. If you would like to sponsor your child, please use the link below. The link will be posted on the school app and shared on Facebook.

https://www.gofundme.com/f/harvest-039food4u039?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1

Thank you in anticipation of your support.

If you have any questions, please contact school.

Kind Regards
Miss Waters

Deputy Headteacher

Our Christmas Eve ‘Big Show’ Plan…

September 25, 2020 by dawnraine

As you are all very aware, many events we usually have in school cannot go ahead this term. This is really disappointing for the children, yourselves and of course our team. In this autumn term we usually have a whole school Halloween school disco, the pantomime in school, brass band events, Christmas party day and the amazing Christmas show.

But fear not! As you can imagine we are pulling out all the stops to ensure the restrictions of Covid do not stop our events, even if this means changing the way we deliver them. But we need your help…

Some things we simply can’t do this year, like the disco and certain band events, but the other amazing things we will be able to deliver in a different way. What we are planning now is an ‘end of term finale’ which will be recorded and a link sent live to families to view on Christmas eve!

The event will be rehearsed after half term until Christmas as part of the children’s PE lessons and will be professionally recorded and edited before being sent to us to publish on our CJS Youtube page on Christmas Eve. All families sign a permission form to allow us to use photographs/videos from when they start with our school. As this is for a specific event we feel it is necessary to gain permission specifically for it, which will also give families the opportunity to ‘opt in’ should they have said no previously. If you do not want your child to be part of this video they will still be involved, but will not feature in the video that will be shared.

We are trying not to give too much away about this event, other than it will be well organised, professionally recorded and the children aim to bring Christmas cheer to us all on Christmas Eve.

Permission forms will be sent out next week. Please sign and return before Friday 23rd October.

Best Wishes

CJS Team
