June 29, 2020 by dawnraine

Thank you to all the children who participated in our virtual sports day, although we recognise that that our actual sports day brings an amazing atmosphere with cheers and chants, this was the best alternative. All the photographs and video evidence we received can enable us to share the experience with you all. It has been so much fun and lovely to see so many families on board.

The video below is a ‘collection’ of some of the pictures and videos emailed to school on Saturday, we would love to see them all but there was at least 300!!!! As well as the AMAZING VIDEO there is also the reveal of the winning house…Well done to…???

CJS team and all the amazing children and families…

End of Year School Reports 2020

June 26, 2020 by dawnraine

School reports were previously scheduled to go home with children on Wednesday 8th July (date already on the school app calendar). This will still be the case.

On Wednesday 8th July, the end of year school reports will either be sent home with children who are currently in school or they can be collected between 8th and 10th July. Any reports not collected will be sent through the post to home addresses.

If you have siblings in school, both reports will be in the same envelope.

Edenred Vouchers – Response required before Monday 29th June

June 25, 2020 by dawnraine

Please see information below regarding the issue of FSM vouchers over summer. A RESPONSE IS REQUIRED. Please complete the short surveyin the link at the bottom of this page before 29/06/2020.

The Covid Summer Food Fund will provide support for children who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals (FSM) over the summer holiday period. Please refer to the Department for Education guidance here.

Each eligible child can receive a £90 eCode to cover the summer holiday period. Schools must order the eCode at least one week before the school term ends and it will be issued to the parent/carer within seven days unless they have specified a distribution date further in the future. We recognise a single £90 eCode may not be suitable for all families and schools have the discretion to schedule a number of smaller eCodes instead, if they see fit.

In all circumstances, an eCode must be issued to the parent/carer before the end of the school term. This will enable staff to identify if a family hasn’t received their eCode and resolve the issue before the holidays begin. If smaller vouchers have been scheduled, the last of these must be delivered by 14th August.

Time Capsule Project – CJS and Mark Wilkinson Photography

June 25, 2020 by dawnraine

Mark Wilkinson Photography, Consett, is now open and has invited us to take part in a fantastic project…

The theme…A Time Capsule of Lockdown memory photographs…

To take part email your lockdown pictures to Mark at mwphotography92@icloud.com

These pictures will be viewable online (Mark Wilkinson FB page and his website) as well as being printed and put in the time capsule. Mark will create a memory slideshow for social media and all photographs received will be included in that. The best picture overall will take prominent place in the window of Mark’s shop as well as smaller pictures around it. The winner will also receive a free print of their photograph.

This time capsule will be buried somewhere in our CJS school grounds. Which will be part of history in years to come, it could even be your grandchildren that are part of opening the capsule!

We are also hoping to invite a local MP to be involved in the burial of the capsule…

We know that children have been involved in so many activities during lockdown and have made so many memories so lets pull them together and create the most memorable time capsule for our future generation to open.

Please ensure you include your child’s name and reference to CJS when emailing your photographs.  Please send your photographs by Friday 17th July.

Good Luck

CJS and Mark Wilkinson photography.

Updates: Summer Holidays; Uniform and Transition

June 24, 2020 by dawnraine

I hope this message finds you all well. I just wanted to give you a little update in regards to our plans so far.

Summer holidays

The school will be closed for the full six weeks, for all pupils. We need to ensure the school is thoroughly deep cleaned, but also ensure our cleaning team, site manager and other key staff have adequate time off, at present they have worked throughout the Covid-19 Pandemic. We also have planned alterations to the main office and reception areas, upgrading of computer equipment and cabling to install over this time. We will also need to respond to potential changes needed to ensure the school is ready for September.

Uniforms

Many of you have already bought uniforms ready for next year, although I am sure many were waiting to see whether school are returning in September. We are mindful that many of our families have had to endure some serious financial conditions over these past few months. Therefore, for the start of the new academic year uniform is an ‘expectation’, but not compulsory UNTIL we return following the October half-term. Current guidance is that clothing must be changed on a daily basis.  Hopefully for those families in need, this may help alleviate some of the more pressing financial concerns.

Returning to school in September

We are currently trying to plan for September and I am in initial discussions with Governors and local Head teachers to how this may look; although this is difficult at present as the Government made an announcement on Friday evening, without sharing any details with schools – it will apparently follow within two weeks!

Once we have a clearer plan in place – we will, of course share this with you.

Year 2 Transition

If you have a child starting with us in year 3 in September, you will know we have a Transition section on our school website with useful documents, guides etc that should help you; we have also added some videos and photographs.  Can I remind families that the forms already posted to you must be returned to school no later than 10th July.

We are almost in a position to share the classes for next year with you and your children, hopefully this should be completed by the beginning of next week.

In addition to this we have set up a designated email address should you have any concerns:

The email address is y2transition@consett-jun.durham.sch.uk

As always I do hope you and your families are all well.

Mr Dixon

Head Teacher

FAO – Year 6 #Transition Tuesday Consett Academy

June 23, 2020 by dawnraine

Please see information below from Consett Academy:

As we get closer to the end of term, a lot of you will have questions about starting at the Academy. A couple of weeks ago, we asked you what you wanted to know, here are the answers to the question some Year 6’s students sent in. We hope they are helpful to everyone.

Next Tuesday, would have been your Transition day in the Academy and to mark the occasion we will share some video taster lessons that you can try at home or in school.

For parents, we will also post a video of the Parents’ Evening that would have taken place on the evening.

National School Sport Week at Home 2020

June 22, 2020 by dawnraine

Did you know it’s National Sports Week!

The weather is ‘blooming’ once again…just in time for you to team up as a family, or socially distanced with friends to take on OUR VIRTUAL SPORTS DAY challenges. Don’t forget to submit your images/videos on Saturday 27th June to win house points for the house trophy.

The annual National School Sport Week campaign takes place in the last week of June every year to celebrate the important role of Physical Education and school sport in enhancing young people’s wellbeing.

This year, the Youth Sport Trust has teamed up with Sky Sports to run a national campaign which will aim to unite the country – families, schools, sport and businesses – in a celebration of the power of sport to bring people together, even during isolation.

The UK-wide campaign will challenge people to take on their families, friends and neighbours in virtual sporting challenges – helping them to connect in an unprecedented period of school closures and social distancing.
