Raffle Tickets – Consett Lions Club

October 1, 2019 by dawnraine

We have raffle tickets available to buy in school until Thursday 14th November. The raffle is being held by Consett Lions Club, which is a voluntary organisation who support our local community. Each ticket is £1 and 70% of the money collected will be donated to Consett Junior Brass. This will fund the school brass band and enable us to buy more music and instruments so that more children can play in the band.

1st prize is £500 and there are many other valuable prizes on offer. The raffle will be drawn on Monday 18th November and you will be contacted if you have won a prize.

If you would like to buy some raffle tickets, please send the money to school in an envelope with your child’s name on. We thank you for the support you continue to show towards the school band.

Kind Regards

Rebecca Waters

September Attendance Reward

September 30, 2019 by dawnraine

The whole school attendance for September is 97.07% which is an excellent start to the year. Last September is was 96.75%. We have had a few children absent with sickness, but this does not seem to be to much of an issue. Please continue to inform school each day if your child is absent, this ensures there are no unauthorised absences which then instigate further action and monitoring.

The attendance by year group is as follows:

Year 3 – 97.55%
Year 4 – 97.61%
Year 5 – 95.40% – Come on year 5…lets go for it for October!
Year 6 – 97.88% – EXCELLENT YEAR 6

As year 6 have achieved the best attendance for September each child in year 6 will be given a cake/giant cookie this Friday (4th October) as their reward.

Class 8 (Miss Waters) have achieved the reward for the best class attendance at a phenomenal 98.38%, well done! The Class 8 reward for this is a FREE non-uniform day which will also be on Friday 4th October.

Classes 1 and 3 were very close in joint second position with an attendance of 97.74%

Reporting Absences

September 27, 2019 by dawnraine

If your child is absent from school for any reason you MUST inform the school. There are several children absent today and no reason has been provided. There are several ways you can inform the school office, as it is known that sometimes getting through on the on busy mornings can be difficult.

You can ring 01207 504431, you can text 07537436638 or you can email consettjunior@durhamlearning.net

If your child is poorly and their illness means they need to be absent for 48 hours, you do not need to ring on the second day of absence, however, if this goes into the third day then you must make contact with school.

If your child’s absences become frequent or pattern based, i.e. off regularly on Mondays or Fridays, then action will be taken to prove your child is off unwell. This may mean letters are requested from their GP, or a home visit from the school or attendance team officer.

Further concern will result in a referral to the Local Authority, where warnings, interviews or fines are issued. If you do not inform the office regarding absence, or we have reason to believe the reason provided for your child’s absence is not correct, we will refer. There have been occasions where children have told us they have been on holiday, yet families claim they have been unwell.

It is against the law to keep your child off school if they are well enough to be in.

Recent Kitchen Awards

September 26, 2019 by dawnraine

Goods news from a catering team, Keith and Nicky…

“I would just like to take some time to tell you of some excellent results for your School Kitchen and its catering service that is offered to the children.

In the last 2 weeks we have had three separate annual assessments. They all came at once!

Firstly, our Taylor Shaw run kitchen was awarded a 100% rating in its annual Durham County Council Performance Assessment. This rates food quality and nutrition, safe working practices as well as staff performance and interaction with our customers, your children.

Secondly, the Kitchen has also become the joint highest performing in the local area as assessed by Internal Audit and Performance Assessors who work on behalf of Taylor Shaw and its parent company, Elior. These specifically look at the areas of Food Safety/Hygiene and Health and Safety.

Lastly, your Kitchen has again been awarded a Level 5 Rating by Durham County council Environmental Health Department is its very recent inspection.

These inspections and assessments show that we are ensuring your child is being given an individual service which provides top quality nutritional ingredients in a safe and welcoming environment.

We welcome you to share in the success of your school kitchen and the peace of mind as parents in ensuring your child is enjoying a balanced meal in a friendly and safe environment.”

Well done Keith and Nicky!!!
