Parents/Carers Consultation Evenings – March/April 2020

March 16, 2020 by dawnraine

It is with great sadness that we have had to cancel ALL parents/carers evenings, including tonights (Mr Moore) as you can imagine this is a difficult decision to make. However, the guidance and information we have received is clear and we will always ensure we do what is right for our children and their families.

We will do our best to provide an alternative date once the current situation becomes clearer. If we are not able to reschedule these appointments, then reports will be sent home regarding your child’s progress.

Please can you ensure both parents/carers are made aware of these cancellations.

Kind regards,

Mrs Dixon
Head Teacher

Mothers Day Events – Cancelled

March 16, 2020 by dawnraine

It is with great sadness that we have had to cancel both of our planned Mother’s Day lunch events on Wednesday 18th and 25th March, as you can imagine this is a very difficult decision to make.

However, the guidance and information we have received is clear and we will always ensure we do what is right for our children and their families. Unfortunately, due to the Easter closure and uncertainty of planning future events at this time, we will be unable to reschedule these events.

Kind regards,

Mr Dixon
Head Teacher

Coronavirus – School update

March 12, 2020 by dawnraine

Dear Parents and Carers,

I thought it prudent to write to inform you of our preparations in managing the threat of Coronavirus. As I write this letter we thankfully only have 1 confirmed case in County Durham, although I am sure the situation will not remain like this for long.

At the moment the advice from Public Health England and the Department of Education is for schools to remain open, of course this is a fluid situation and this advice may change – we will keep you up to date with any changes in guidance via the school app and if necessary a school text message. Please do not follow any information relating to our school if it is not from one of our means of communication.

Currently we are placing great emphasis on hand washing and hygiene, each class will have a discrete Hygiene lesson, resources of which are provided by Public Health England.

We are in the process of ensuring each classroom have a good supply of tissues and means of disposing used tissues in a safe way. It would be supportive if you could speak with your child about hand washing and hygiene.

As previously mentioned, we will of course keep you up to date of any changes that potentially could have an impact on school and our families.

Kind regards,

Mr Dixon

Head Teacher

Decorated Eggs Competition

February 28, 2020 by dawnraine

As you are aware Easter is fast approaching and we are looking forward to our egg decorating competition. This year we are asking that the eggs are decorated at home and brought into school on the morning of Thursday 2nd April.

Please ensure your child knows to take their eggs straight to the hall. The eggs will then be judged by Major Barbara Fawcett, who is coming into school that day to lead our Easter assembly. The eggs will be returned home that evening.

Travelling Book Fair in school w/c 9th March 2020

February 27, 2020 by dawnraine

The Travelling Book Fair will be in the school hall FROM the afternoon of Monday 9th March to the end of the day on Friday 13th March 2020.

Children have been given book leaflets today (25th February) to give you an early peek at the books available. This is usually a very popular book fair with a wide arrangement of books and stationary for many ages.

Children have the opportunity to purchase books at certain times during the day, so can bring money to school for this. Alternatively, parents can come in and view the books with their children between 8.30 a.m and 9.00 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. BUT not after school on Tuesday due to Karate in the hall.

Children will be given a £1 world book day voucher on Thursday 5th March, to use at the fair.

School do not receive commission from books sold but we do receive books for our school library, which benefits all children in our school.

Parents/Carers Consultation Evenings – March/April 2020

February 25, 2020 by dawnraine

As previously informed via the App calendar, we are holding our parents/carers consultation evenings as follows:

Monday 16th March – Class 6 (Mr Moore) only, in Class 6

Wednesday 18th March – Year 3 & Year 4, in the main hall (Therefore no Chris Shield club – Year 6)

Thursday 19th March – Class 5 (Miss Breheny) only, in Class 5

Thursday 2nd April – Year 6 parents evening, hall or classroom tbc – Nurture club IS still on.

We offer parents evenings over several days to reduce the congestion in the hall. If your date is not suitable for you, please state this on the return form so your teacher can look at an alternative.

Booking forms will be sent home with your child on Monday 2nd March, please indicate your preferred time slot and staff will send confirmation home with your child on a first come first served basis, so please note that your chosen time may not be the time you are allocated, but teachers will make this as near to it as possible.

Please note these appointments are for discussing your child’s progress in the classroom, their targets and looking at their books. All other concerns should be raised with Mr Dixon at a mutually convenient time.

School will be open tomorrow – Tuesday 25th February

February 24, 2020 by dawnraine

School will be open tomorrow at 7.45 a.m. for breakfast club. Mr O’Dowd has cleared the main paths into school and Mr Dixon is currently on site and has confirmed accessibility directly to the school at this time is manageable, the snow is melting fast and no further snowfall is forecast for the remainder of today.

Although unlikely, should any lingering snow cause issues with children arriving at school safely and on time tomorrow (8.55 a.m.) we will leave registration open until 9.30 a.m.

We hope the children have enjoyed their snow day… lets hope it’s the last!

Please ensure children are dressed appropriately for the weather tomorrow. After school clubs will also be on.

School Closed.

February 24, 2020 by pauldixon

Due to the early morning snowfall and because the roads around school and the local area are not great, we have taken the decision in conjunction with Consett Infants and Beechdale Nursery to close the school for today.

We will reopen tomorrow, Tuesday 25th February.
