Mrs Leggett’s Adventures in Nepal – Connecting Classrooms

November 19, 2019 by dawnraine

On Sunday we were messaged by Mrs Leggett, informing of her safe arrival in Nepal.  She siad that she arrived safely after a very long journey.  Everything went well and the Nepalese Head Teachers were all there waiting to greet them at the airport.  They checked into a lovely hotel and needed sleep, even though it was only 1.00 p.m. in Nepal.

Mrs Leggett has promised to send many photographs so our children can follow her on her Journey this week.  Yesterday (Monday 18th November) they visited a Buddhist Temple and they all visited one of the schools to have their first meeting about the Connecting Classrooms project. Tomorrow they will set off to visit their partner school! Very exciting!

On Tuesday (19th), Mrs Leggett visited our partner school Global Pathshala, Mrs Leggett observed their meditation class and the children.  The children also have a music group and are very good, their instrument are very different to ours.  Mrs Leggett has found so many similarities between their school and ours, they even enjoy performing in shows!

On Wednesday (20th), Ms Leggett visited a statue of Shiva with Dila who is the Headteacher of Glabal Pathshala.  The children put on a fancy dress competition for Mrs Leggett.

Children in Need

November 15, 2019 by dawnraine

Before I go any further, can I just say an ENORMOUS thank you to everyone. Today we have been fundraising for Children in Need.

The costumes and efforts from all today has been phenomenal, clearly a lot of time spent on making many of them. There were so, so many donations of sweets that children were able to go back and back again for turns on the tombola.

As a school community we have today raised a breath-taking £518 for Children in Need. The £518 cheque will be sent to Children and Need

Thank you.

BBC Newsround and BIG

November 13, 2019 by dawnraine

We were recently asked to take part in some work with BBC Newsround, in conjunction with the Big Award – An Anti Bullying group our school currently works alongside. Some of our year 6 pupils have been interviewed in regards to the pressures of the modern world, social media and the like…as you can see from the video link at the bottom the children were a credit to their families and the school. Future media personalities clearly!

The Big Award group comes into school at least once a year to work alongside our children and staff to ensure we are up to date in terms of training and prevention of bullying within school. They support us at all other times in the year, should we need them. We are also mindful of the modern world and the pressures of social media – so are constantly training our staff and ‘Buddy’s’ to deal with these changing pressures.

Well done to our Evie, Caitlin, Eva, Elliot, Brandon and Robert, we are so very proud of you all. It was a pleasure to see them talk openly about their feelings, they are a credit to our school.

This is currently anti-bullying awareness week and we have our BIG representatives in school this Friday for a special assembly, we would love to see many of our parents/carers there for this. It is usually a very fun and interactive assembly. Children can also wear odd socks on Friday, which is part of their goal of raising awareness, children can make this fun by tucking their trousers into them!

Year 5 Tag Rugby

November 7, 2019 by dawnraine

Yesterday, 20 pupils from year 5 went to compete in a year 5/6 rugby tournament at Consett Rugby club. Despite the cold and the wind, all the children were excited and raring to go; they certainly were not going to let a little mud get in the way of the fun.  There was approximately 30 schools in the competition and over 200 children took part in the day so the atmosphere was amazing.
We entered 2 teams into the event and both did our school proud!! They were respectful, supportive of each other and showed impeccable levels of sportsmanship even when faced with some challenging situations (and some quite tough tackles from older children).
The consett 2 team couldn’t believe it when they made it to the final and they put up a good fight against some very strong teams. In the end, Consett 2 came away with a very well- deserved bronze medal!! However, even more impressive than that was the way the Consett 1 team were rooting them on every step of the way and even stormed the pitch chanting when they won their final match- that’s team spirit!!

Harvest collection

October 25, 2019 by rebeccawaters

Thank you very much to all of our families who made a donation to the Harvest collection.  Our Year 6 volunteers bagged up the food and took it to Consett Food Bank on Thursday this week.  Today we received this email:

‘I write on behalf of Consett food4u to thank your school for the very generous donation of 145.12kg of food, which will contribute to the making of approximately 190 meals. This was a great effort, and we are extremely grateful.’

Christmas Show Productions – Important Information

October 25, 2019 by dawnraine

Apologies in advance for the length of this news alert…but all the information IS important!

It is not long now till the children perform their Christmas shows for you. Following the half term your child will be rehearsing their lines, songs and dances. Please feel free to help them at home!

For families who are used to our shows being at the Empire Theatre and performed as a whole school, you may be surprised to have learnt that this year things will be very different. We are strengthening our links with Consett Academy and they have very kindly offered us the use of their Auditorium.

Letters with further details will go out after half term, but below are things we must inform you about.

Lower School Show – Tuesday 17th December starting at 2.15 p.m. at Consett Academy

Upper School Show – Wednesday 18th December starting at 2.15 p.m. at Consett Academy

As the shows are after lunch, children will be on their usual meal arrangements that day. All children must come to school at the normal time on the day, please ensure they have a coat as they will be walking to the Academy from school. Tickets can only be purchased from Mrs Raine, and they are £3.00 each. They are limited to two tickets per child. The information that will be sent out after the holidays will have clear instructions as to how to purchase your two tickets, however, you must do this by Friday 15th November. If you do not purchase your two tickets they will be sold to other family members and you risk missing the performance. We appreciate that many families will want to purchase more than two tickets (grandparents especially). There will be opportunity to do this once priority tickets have been sold.

On Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th November between 9.00 – 10.00 a.m. Mrs Raine will be in the hall ready to sell additional tickets to extended family members. These are on a first come basis, with no limit per sale, but unfortunately no tickets can be reserved by phone or email, this makes it a fair process for all.

The Academy are being very accommodating in allowing us to use their facilities, but they do have strict regulations. There is no provision to store prams/pushchairs, the toilets facilities are only for children, the car park is only for Consett Academy staff and there will be no entry into the Academy before 1.55 p.m. (due to their students lesson change overs). Therefore doors open to families at 2.00 p.m. Sorry, but we must respect their terms.

The tickets are numbered, but your seats are not. Therefore, people arriving for admission at 1.45 p.m. have first choice on the seats they want. As all seats are expected to be sold, please do not leave individual seats spare between you as this will only delay the start of the performance. There is strictly no admission without your ticket.

There are no mobile phones/cameras allowed during the performances. We have a duty to safeguard our children.

Both shows will start at 2.15 p.m. and estimate to be finished by 3.15/3.30 p.m. If you have other children still at school, they will remain here until you can collect them. The Infant School have also been informed of these dates. If you are not coming to your child’s performance your child will be walked back to school for collection, you are of course welcome to collect them from teachers from outside of the Academy at 3.30 p.m

Doodle Club will still be on after school on Tuesday 17th December.

Cross Country Results

October 18, 2019 by dawnraine

Tonight we took our brilliant team to Greenland’s primary school to compete in their fourth and final race of the season. What an outstanding performance by all, on a pretty hard course! Our children were amazing once again, they represented our school amazingly and this year we finished with an overall place!

Well done to the first race girls for pushing themselves to the limit each week to get the team there. The girls team came 3rd overall, out of 22 schools. Fantastic. I must thank the efforts of Teagan, Abigail, Sarah, Robyn and Beth, they each received a medal and round of applause!!

The first race boys team were also amazing, we will find out tomorrow their finish place, but well done to Matthew T, Matthew C, Jack and Robert for their motivation, drive and sheer brilliance!

Thank you to all parents, siblings, staff and governors who attended each week to support our crew, with a special thanks to Abigail’s Mam for the delicious cupcakes!

Massive well done to all 26 runners over the last month, and also for their commitment to weekly training.

All children will receive a medal in tomorrows assembly…they all deserve one! Soooo proud of you all!

Miss Oselton, Mrs Raine (and Mrs Hannant – even while on maternity leave)
