Year 6 First Week Back at CJS

June 19, 2020 by dawnraine

The staff and children working in Year 6 have had such a fabulous week in school this week. It is so good to be back even though things are a little different in school. We are so proud of how hard the children in school have worked this week. We have continued with English lessons on a morning where the children have written a letter to a loved one as well as a Lockdown song and in Maths we have been revising things we had learnt before Lockdown in preparation for some new Maths topics, which we will be focusing on next week. On afternoons we have focused on PSHE, discussing the affect Lockdown has had on all of us, designing time capsules, creating Covid journals and my Lockdown life posters. We have also tried to get outside as much as possible playing socially distanced games, completing Mr Meadows photo challenge (which the adults even found difficult) and spending time with the friends that we have missed over the last three months.

Next week we will continue with Maths and English lessons on a morning and on an afternoon our topic will be Black Lives Matter with of course some PE as well.

Thank you for your continued support.

Home Work Packs – Set 6

June 17, 2020 by dawnraine

The sixth, and last set of work packs will be completed and ready to collect from midday this Friday. If you have previously emailed consettjunior@durhamlearning.net or rang school to request paper copies, you DO NOT need to do this again as we have a list. If you still have packs to collect from previous weeks we will not print anymore. Those packs will remain there to collect. Children can work through the previous ones and if need be we can print the sixth pack at a later date.

Due to social distancing, these packs will be in named sealed envelopes and left in the school reception porch. When you come to collect it, please be considerate of other people who may also be collecting theirs, and maintain your 2m social distance.

Tomorrow afternoon your child’s website class page will not be available. If you try to log in it will request a password. This is to allow the new packs to be uploaded to the website. If you have not yet printed or saved the documents from your child’s page, you only have until lunchtime to do so. Once the pages are live again the only work on there will be the newly uploaded packs and on going topics.

As previously shared, these websites are also really useful

http://www.thenational.academy/

Finally, these sixth packs are for the two weeks commencing Monday 22nd June, the remaining two weeks of term are for children to catch up on any work they have not yet completed from previous sets and we will also set some fun ‘challenges’ to end the summer term – details to follow. We will no longer print packs if your child is now back in school for education.

Saturday 27th June is our Virtual Sport’s Day so will count towards your child’s P.E. lesson, don’t be beaten by the staff!!!!!

Virtual Sports Day – ‘Beat the Staff’

June 12, 2020 by dawnraine

This year we are going to have a virtual sports day with the theme of ‘Beat the Staff’.

Below is the list of activities which we would love you all to have a go at.  You will see that some of the events are traditional sports day activities, however, some of them are a little more, in fact very silly and will give you the opportunity to get a bit daft with your family (parental participation is a must).
We would like you to take a picture/video of yourself doing each event and email it to consettjunior@durhamlearning.net and for every piece of evidence we receive you will earn a point for your house. (Eg. If you complete and send evidence of 5 activities you will earn 5 points for your house).  We will then combine all of the scores and a house champion will be announced!  Who will get the trophy this year?
You can carry out the activities at any time but our actual sports day is on the Saturday 27th of June so you will only earn points for videos/ pictures sent in on this day.
Here is the fun part- the staff are carrying out these events too.  After sports day we will make a fun compilation video showing some of your best pictures/videos and one of all of the staff’s- it will then be your job to spot if the staff have missed any activities out AND if any staff you know are missing from the video; if they have there is going to be a fun and potentially ‘messy’ forfeit for Mr Dixon!
The sheet below is just for you to help keep track of what you have done and also a way for you to record your results. If you’re feeling competitive you could use it to compare your results with your friends but it does not need to be handed in.
The main point of this is to have lots of fun and create some memories…and obviously to make Mr Dixon do a forfeit- but we’ll not tell him that part.

We cant wait to see all your pictures and videos!

CJS is different…for now…

June 11, 2020 by dawnraine

CJS is different for now, but the children inside will bring it back to life

As we prepare to open the school for our Year 6 pupils on Monday, we wanted them (and children from other year groups) to know how it will look. It’s not CJS as we all know it, BUT, with their help we will make it special and atmospheric once again. Help us ignite that sparkle into a very different CJS…

Classes for the NEXT Academic year

June 11, 2020 by dawnraine

11th June, 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

I do hope you are all well. I know we are very much missing our lovely children, it is a very challenging time for us all.

It now seems unlikely that school will be opening to pupils other than year 6 and key worker children before the end of term. So looking forward and thinking about September I wanted to let you know which class your children will be in when hopefully, the world returns to some sort of ‘normal’.

Usually we would carefully review their current class and move children should their be a need. Last year we made significant changes to all class groups, in previous years we tend to only move pupils going into year 6 to prepare them for bigger class changes when they go to their next school. This however, won’t happen for next year – ALL children will remain in the same groups, albeit with a different teacher. We feel that having so much time away from school and then returning to a new class will be difficult enough, keeping them with their friends and those they know will hopefully help with transition back to school.

Your child’s ‘new’ teacher will share a video message to their new class, which we aim to upload to our site on Monday afternoon.

The classes for the next academic year will be as follows:

Current Year 3 – NEW Year 4

Mrs McMahon’s class will be moving to Class 4 – Mrs Taylor and Mrs Leggett
Mrs Smith’s class will move to Class 3 – Mr Meadows

They will be supported by Miss Thompson and Miss Lynch

Current Year 4 – NEW Year 5

Mr Meadows’s class will move to Class 5 – Miss Breheny
Miss Hughes/Mrs Leggett’s class will move to Class 6 – Mr Moore

They will be supported by Miss Hannant and Mrs Gilray

Current Year 5 – New Year 6

Miss Breheny’s class will move to Class 8 – Miss Waters
Mr Moore’s class will move to Class 7 – Miss McNeill

They will be supported by Mrs Atkinson and Mrs Hird

Our New Year 3 will receive further information once classes have been finalised, this is still being discussed to ensure we correctly split the children. However, their teachers will be Mrs McMahon and Miss White (newly appointed teacher for September), supported by Miss Oselton and Mrs Shield.

Many thanks, please stay safe.

Mr P Dixon

Meal Provision for Keyworker Children from 1st June 2020

June 11, 2020 by dawnraine

As you are aware, to minimise the risk of infection as we prepare to open to more pupils, we have been providing lunches for the children.

We have had a meeting with Taylor Shaw to expand the food choices available. The changes are as follows:

w/c Monday 15th June – packed lunches as normal (school have purchased additional snacks and crisps).

w/c Monday 22nd June until the end of term – Hot food delivered in a ‘take away’ style carton will be offered. Children must pre-order what they want from the menu the week before and staff will make a note of their order. The choices will be things like pizza and wedges or fish fingers and chips with the alternative being a jacket potato.

If you pay for school meals they will be charged on ParentPay.

Wider Opening of CJS for Year 6 Pupils – w/c 15th June

June 10, 2020 by dawnraine

Please see an updated parent/carer protocol below for the wider opening of school from Monday 15th June, four Year 6 pupils. Please note, this protocol will be updated, when necessary, following the review of the weekly risk assessments.

We are pleased to welcome some our Year 6 pupils back to school on Monday 15th June – by now you will have received a call to ascertain whether your child is returning; the information below is how it will all work in reality.
The information below is tightly linked to risk assessments and is aimed to support all staff and children in school and minimise the risk as far as possible. We recognise some of these measures are very different to how we normally work but we need to ensure everyone in school is safe.

● Children will be taught in groups of 8.

● All classrooms have been measured to support social distancing

● Children will be allocated to a group and this group (pod) will remain together at all times across the day, they will not mix with anyone else in school and will, where possible, have the same teacher at all times. The groups have been carefully sorted, where possible the children will be with one of their friends.

● Children must not wear school uniform but do need to wear clean washed clothes daily as the virus is known to survive on clothing.

● Please adhere to strict social distancing at drop off points and only arrive at school in time to drop off and collect your child. The main school car park will be locked – please do not drive down this road.

● The office is closed to visitors and parents. No one can come into school unless by a prior arranged appointment and social distancing rules will be followed.

● Information or concerns can be passed through the office via telephone or email.

● Please ensure you are aware of your child’s pick up and drop off times and stick rigidly to these times to help the day run smoothly – The children will be met at the school gate by a member of staff – they will then direct them straight onto the yard, to be met by their teacher. (You will receive a text message to say which teacher they have.)

● Your child’s pod adult will also bring them to you at the gate at the end of the day. We ask you stand at an appropriate place for collection, following social distance guidelines. Please do not block the school gate.

● Children should not bring anything from home into school except for a sun hat on days where it is forecast to be warm and sunny. We will provide water bottles daily. Please ensure that you have put sun cream on your child at the start of the school day as they will be going outside wherever possible and this will protect them.

● All children in school MUST access the school packed lunch provision – this is to help mitigate the spread of the virus. We hope to be able to provide hot food, starting 22nd June – further details to follow.

● School will look different due to the measures in place e.g. marked playgrounds, distanced desks etc.

● All children will be given their own bank of resources to include all stationery etc. they will need.

● Staff may wear PPE to administer first aid or intimate care.

● For safety and timing purposes at the end of the school day, staff will not be able to liaise with you about your child that day. If there is anything that needs to be communicated to you directly, you will receive a telephone call.

● School will close at 1:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon to support remote learning and deep cleaning. Key worker care will continue to operate as normal on these afternoons.

● We will continue to set home learning for those children not in school.

● If you choose to send your child into school, we ask that you continue to maintain Government social distancing guidance at home to ensure everyone is protected within their pod. YOU MUST MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING AT ALL TIMES. If social distancing is not maintained outside of school, we may withdraw an offer of a place for your child due to the increased risks to other children and staff.
