Edenred Vouchers – Half Term

May 19, 2020 by dawnraine

We have been informed that there will be no national voucher provided for the upcoming half term week. As we have done our batch orders with Edenred until the end May the families who are entitled will receive them. However, we have been informed to miss a week in June to compensate for this. Therefore, there will be no vouchers issued for use during the week commencing Monday 8th June.

To ensure we are still providing meals for our families during this week we will be offering packed lunches to collect from schools. This will be for one week only and your next voucher will be issued at the end of that week for use w/c Monday 15th June. This is on the understanding that our kitchen will again reopen on Monday 1st June for those children returning to school. If the kitchen does not open then we will explore other avenues of support.

If you would like a packed lunch made up for collection for the w/c Monday 8th June please email consettjunior@durhamlearning.net by Monday 1st June to place your order. Families who email school will receive a text the week before with collection details.

National Book Tokens – Nominations

May 14, 2020 by dawnraine

Even though schools are closed, this big prize draw is back for a seventh year!

We could win £5,000 of National Book Tokens for our school’s library, ready to spend when schools reopen – and if your entry is picked, you’ll also get £100 of National Book Tokens to spend on yourself!

Whether you work in a school or have school-aged children yourself, you’ll know the importance of a good school library – and not just for learning. Studies show that reading for pleasure doesn’t just give children an advantage academically; it can improve their wellbeing, too.

To nominate our school please complete via the link below:

Year 6 – Parental Questionnaire

May 13, 2020 by pauldixon

Year 6 Only

We are collecting views from Year 6 parents of the potential of re-opening school on the 1st June. Obviously this is still to be confirmed, a great deal of planning and discussions must take place before we are even in a position to offer guidance to parents. What I am hoping at this early stage is to collect views from yourselves on the potential re-opening. If you could help, I would be greatly appreciative. Please complete before Monday 18th May.

The link below will take you to a very quick online survey. (The link will take you to a secure Microsoft forms questionnaire)

Please take care and ‘Stay Alert’!

Year 4 message from Mr Meadows to accompany the next set of learning

May 13, 2020 by dawnraine

This message is to accompany the year 4 work which will be set for week commencing Monday 18 May

Children find reading and showing time on analogue and digital clocks extremely difficult. If your child is struggling with these worksheets please spend time with them reading and showing times on actual clocks. If possible follow this sequence: o’clock – half past – quarter past & quarter to – minutes past (in 5 min intervals)- minutes to (in 5 min intervals) – minutes past (to the nearest minute) – minutes to (to the nearest minute) etc. Once your child is able to do these with an analogue clock repeat the same sequence with a 12hr digital clock, and then with a 24hr digital clock.

There is a great online visual clock at https://www.topmarks.co.uk/time/teaching-clock which can be used to show a variety of analogue, 12hr and 24hr clock times.

Governments announcement at a phased reopen of schools

May 13, 2020 by dawnraine

13th May, 2020

Dear parents and families,

I’ve resisted the temptation to message you all straight away in regards to the Government’s announcement that schools MAY reopen to Year 6 children on 1st June, with further opening toward the end of June, as I didn’t feel I was in a position to give clarification in regards to safety and next steps.

Now having a few days of contemplation and listening to a huge amount of advice, views and opinions from various people, I am still in no position to give clear guidance. We are still awaiting further clarity from the Local Authority and a promised Toolkit to aid opening from the DfE, these will arrive at some point. Perhaps then we can begin to give thoughts as to how we can safely open for more pupils, especially with care given to staff and pupils safety in regards to social distancing. I am also in daily communication with my fellow Headteachers in our local area, so that we can work together to come up with solutions that support families.

I will at some point be sending a link out that will take you to a simple questionnaire, this will ask whether you would currently consider sending your child back to school on June 1st – initially this will be aimed at Year 6 parents only, however, will be widened the survey at a later date to take in views of all families. As a parent, I can only sympathise with you all as to what is the right course of action – I firmly believe whatever decision you make must be right for your family and take into account your own circumstances. As always the school will fully support you at this difficult time and in the decision you may be forced to make.

If and when the school reopens for children other than the current Key worker children, I will of course share with you the systems and measures we set out to ensure the best protections and procedures are their for your children and my staff.

All I can emphasise is that whatever decisions I make it will be with the safety of children and staff at the very forefront of my decisions. As you can well imagine I receive daily updates and will endeavour to keep you all up to date with any changes.

Please stay safe, or alert! We are certainly missing our wonderful children.

Best wishes,

Paul Dixon

Home Work Packs – Set 4

May 11, 2020 by dawnraine

The fourth set of work packs will be ready on Friday. If you have previously emailed consettjunior@durhamlearning.net or rang school to request paper copies, you DO NOT need to do this again as we have a list. You will be sent a text on Friday when they are ready to collect, please do not arrive until you have been informed they are ready.

Due to social distancing, these packs will be in named sealed envelopes and left in the school reception porch. When you come to collect it, please be considerate of other people who may also be collecting theirs, and maintain your 2m social distance. As they are in the front porch you can come at anytime as access to this area is 24/7.

If you have not arranged for a paper pack please do not come to school, as there will not be a pack for you to collect.

On Thursday afternoon your child’s website class page will not be available. If you try to log in it will request a password. This is to allow the new packs to be uploaded to the website. If you have not yet printed or saved the documents from your child’s page, you only have until noon on Thursday to do so. Once the pages are live again the only work on there will be the newly uploaded packs and on going topics. This is to save confusion on what your child has or hasn’t done. Do not start any work until you receive your text. All children in each class have different capabilities, your text will be curtailed to meet your child’s ability.

As previously shared, these websites are also really useful

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/znbnscw
http://www.thenational.academy/

Finally, these fourth packs are for the two weeks commencing Monday 18th May, which means the half term will be included, and the instruction is NOT to work over the half term! Instead have LOTS of fun and making memories. Therefore, your fifth pack will be from Monday 8th June.

As always we welcome photographs of what your child is up to emailed to school, we dearly miss your children and in these difficult times, it keeps our spirits high too…

Stay safe…we are only an email away…

To all of our year 6 children…

May 10, 2020 by dawnraine

As SATs week arrives it’s not quite the same,
The tests that we planned for never quite came.
The displays are still up; walls full of maths rules,
But your laughter and love is missing from school.
For some of you, happiness, lots of relief,
For others a sigh of pure disbelief.
You all made us proud preparing for this week,
Expected and Greater depth grades you did seek.
Algebra, fractions, the times table drills,
Inference, retrieval and reading skills.
Past present progressive and all that SPAG,
We know that you had all of this in the bag!
Fear not though, the SATs do not measure,
All of the wonderful things you will treasure.
The memories you have made at Consett Junior School,
Will stay with you for a lifetime, each as a jewel.
So again, just to say ‘You’ve made us all proud’
We were just desperate to tell you and shout it out loud.
‘Year 6 you are amazing, you’ve come incredibly far and we don’t need a test to see how amazing you are!’
Stay safe
Love from

September Uniform – Free for Pupil Premium Children

May 6, 2020 by dawnraine

We have made the decision to pay for a proportion of school uniform for children that we receive pupil premium funding for, you may not know if you fall into this category, if you do then we will send a school text message with a link to the uniform website. This offer applies to children coming to us from Year 2, as well as our current Year 3, 4 and 5. We feel that families who are struggling financially now, due to the current situation, do not need the added worry of how to provide uniform for their children for the new academic year.

If you are entitled and have already purchased uniform why not order additional items or even the next size up for the following school year, as this is not the normal procedure. We will place the order on your behalf, you just need to email us with the sizes you require consettjunior@durhamlearning.net

We are allocating each child two jumpers/cardigans, two polo shirts and one PE kit. when you place your order via email please include:

Your name

Your child’s name

Your child’s year group

The colour PE kit shorts you would prefer

The size of all garments.

Please do not order direct from Tots to Teams as this will require you to pay.

https://totstoteams.com/consett-junior-school

All orders that we place on your behalf must be emailed to school by 31st May 2020. Orders placed with us after this time will NOT be processed. The uniform will be delivered to school and we will inform you when it is ready to collect. As previously informed, uniform is in stock at present, but they may encounter difficulties with their suppliers in the near future.  We feel processing a batch order asap will give us priority, plus it means there are three months for delivery to school.

We hope that this helps our families and takes the worry off something that is not important in the current circumstances.

Take Care

Redeeming Edenred Vouchers

May 1, 2020 by dawnraine

If you are receiving the national vouchers can you please check your emails and redeem the codes you have been sent.

I have just been on the system and ‘resent’ any codes that have previously been sent by Edenred, but have not been redeemed by the parent/carer. This is not an error. Edenred cancel orders that are not redeemed four weeks from the issue date. Please redeem or they will be cancelled. The system will only allow me to resend codes once a week.

I appreciate the system has been difficult for everyone, but i do see improvements as each week goes by, I would like to thank you for your patience with this system. Rest assured, I have been equally frustrated in trying to create vouchers for you. You are not alone! Like all things at the moment, they are challenging and under lots of pressure, we can only be patient…

I will help where I can.

Have a lovely weekend and stay safe

Mrs Raine
